Use the ATK App for longer battery life on your Galaxy Tab
Most of you probably heard of the ATK app. ATK stands for Advanced Task Killer, this is one of the most popular apps in the Adroid Market. Its function is, like what its name implies, kill applications. You might ask why this is an important app or why you need to kill applications running in your Samsung Galaxy Tab, this is because there are numerous applications on your tablet that start on their own and you really don’t need them running the whole time.. they’ll suck the life out of your battery as they run silently in the background.
What’s great about this app is that it’s simple and has easy settings to suit your needs, and it’s free. When you open this app, you only need to check those applications you don’t use and ATK will kill them for you so you can save hours of battery life. For applications that you do use, like ATK, voicemail, HTC Sense, email, etc., include them in your ignore list to keep it protected from ATK.
There’s also a feature here called “Auto Kill”. It allows you to choose from three behaviors depending on how you want ATK to act in your tablet. Safe mode only kills those applications that are not running but are still eating up your tablet’s memory. Aggressive mode kills those applications running in the background, as well as those that aren’t running. And Crazy mode kills all applications except for those you’re using.
Get this app right now as it is essential for your Samsung Galaxy Tab. It’s free, on its 1.9.3 version and requires 1.5 or later of your Android operating system.

It’s ADVANCED Task Killer. Not Application Task Killer.
Thanks Marcelo, the post has been revised.
I seem to remember this kind of app isn't necessary and not a good idea on Android.
Have you tried this app? why do you say it's not a good idea? did it cause your galaxy tab to malfunction? please tell me, i wish to know before I try to download this app. thank you!
Here’s a quick test for anyone not sure whether the Advanced Task Killer will be useful.. hold down the home button on your Galaxy Tab, and a window will pop up showing your most recent applications. Next, click the ‘Task Manager’ button to see what’s currently running.. you may be surprised to see that apps you closed hours ago are still running in the background, sucking up your battery power. The android task manager shows RAM and CPU usage of all your running apps and allows you end them manually. The ATK app will take care of this automatically for you.
No, I've not tried this app. I based my comments on various articles on the web about why you shouldn't use a task killer with Android, such as this one: http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-tas...
My understanding is that task killers were useful with Android 2.1 but they are counterproductive with Android 2.2 (Froyo) which runs on the Galaxy Tab. If you kill an application or task in Froyo there is a high chance that the operating system will simply restart it automatically which uses more battery power than actually leaving the task alone and letting Android 2.2 decide when to terminate it. This feature of Froyo is very useful when apps crash and need to be 'force closed' because of some problem, because they are automatically restarted for you i.e. you don't have to click on the icon to get going again, but it does mean that Task Killers are a lot less useful than in previous versions of Android 2.1. All that notwithstanding, 'never say never'. There are times when Task Killers can be useful but you need to put more thought into how and when you use them. That is something I need to research more.
Every hear of Gallery? You can't even force close it. Yet it'll be at the top of your battery list eating up your juice. Powering off and off sometime doesn't kill it.
