iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Faceoff

With the launch of the iPad 2 at Yerba Bueno Centre for the Arts in San Francisco, we can now do a head-to-head comparison on these two giant tablet rivals. A lot of tablet fans have been waiting for apple to reveal their latest iPad so that they can finally choose which of the 2 favorites they should get, so here are the facts.

Let’s begin with the most obvious spec when we first look at these tablets, the screen size. Our Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has 10.1 inches of WXGA TFT LCD while iPad 2 stayed at 9.7 inches, the same size as their first iPad. I don’t know about you guys but lately I’ve realized most of my friends who are tablet fans seem to opt for bigger screens now, I’m not saying that bigger screens are always better, of course it all depends on how clear it can display images. For resolution, iPad 2 offers 1024 x 768 and Samsung Galaxy Tab has 1280 x 800, an obvious win.

Camera wise, info regarding the number of mega pixels for iPad 2’s cameras weren’t announced so we’ll leave it at that for now. But for the sake of comparison, it’s got 2 cameras now, one front with a VGA and one back capable of recording videos of up to 720p. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has 2 as well, a front camera with 2MP for video chat, and a back camera with a huge 8MP.

And for the brain of the gadget, Apple uses their own processor they call A5. It has the same power as Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1’s Tegra 2 from Nvidia, it runs at 1GHz and is dual-core as well.

As with the HDMI feature, the Galaxy 10.1 is, hopefully, still working on this while the iPad 2 has it already. However, there’s a big BUT, you’ll need to purchase from them a special Apple adapter to be able to transfer your HD video to your big screen, that’s an additional $39 so I leave it up to you guys if you see this as a big plus.

These are our details for now since we have not heard from the other specs like the RAM from both tablets, or the battery life for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, but we do know that the iPad 2 was able to maintain its 10 hour battery life from their first iPad.

Stay tuned to find out more details about this comparison, we have more info coming. How do you feel the iPad 2 stacks up against the Galaxy Tab? Post your comments below.
