The long awaited update for the original Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inch is finally here. Many thought that this update would never happen but here it is at long last. This is for all Samsung Galaxy Tab owners with Verizon, and it’s called EC02 packed with cool new features to optimize your tablet’s full potentials.

Among new things you will experience after installing this 34.6MB update onto your tablet include enhanced browser performance and speed, improved battery life when searching for Wi-Fi hotspots, updated Adobe Flash Player, bug fixes with the alarms and time zone calendar settings, access to hyperlinks within emails, time displayed on the status bar will accurately reflect when the latest email was received, able to handle Word 2000 and 2003 documents, open attachments as big as 5MB, multiple name cards can now be sent using the “select all” added feature, and font size stays the same when replying to an email.

It’s also been rumored the Galaxy Tab price will be $349.99, half the price of the first version which cost $700. With this release, Samsung will garner more carrier free distribution and could boost their market share against the iPad 2.

This version only is stripped from its 3G network access, features like the Adobe Flash compatibility and others are still intact. And $349.99 is a very good and competitive price for a device of this kind.

Some are kind of displeased by this tablet’s screen size of only 7 inch, but honestly, it really depends on how you look at it. Many people think that this is a unique advantage compared to bigger sizes because with a 7 inch tablet you can hold it with a single hand.

Operating system wise, the Android 2.2 Froyo isn’t too bad for as an older OS. We barely heard complains about their Galaxy Tab running on Froyo crashing all the time. And surely, sooner or later, a stable build of Android 3.0 OS will be available for the 7 inch tablet use so let’s just be patient.

All electronic devices whether powered by electricity or battery, will eventually freeze. When this happens to your Galaxy Tab you wont be able to use any of the buttons or controls. It sucks, but oh well.. i guess even super computers used by NASA hang sometimes.

What’s important is that you have the means to restart the whole process and get your device up and running again. Here are the step by step instructions how to do a hard reset on your Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Galaxy Tab Reboot Tutorial

1. Turn your device off.
2. Using the button to turn up the volume, press and hold it together with the Power button simultaneously for about 2 seconds.
3. The logo will be displayed on the screen a few seconds later then you can release the Power button, but don’t let go of the volume button just yet.
4. After that, you will see a system menu.
5. You can now use release the volume button and use them to move across the menu.
6. Choose the Wipe Data/Factory Reset and validate with the Power button.

That’s all there is to it! Although hopefully you won’t be using these steps very often, Android devices are known to be very stable.

More Samsung Galaxy devices on the way – 4 and 5 inch models announced

The Samsung Galaxy product line is growing again.. two new 4″ and 5″ Galaxy Players will join the seven, eight, and ten inch Galaxy Tabs. Samsung made the announcement in New York at the Samsung Experience showroom on Wednesday. These babies will basically have the same functionality as the original Galaxy Tab, with a few lighter specs.

The new devices will offer a “fun way to enjoy games, music, videos and social media,” said Tim Baxter, president of Samsung Electronics America. Larger than Apple’s iTouch, these new players will be wifi enabled, and not intended for making phone calls.

Here’s a better view of what the new Galaxy Player’s will be capable of:

Device Size: 4 and 5 inch screen sizes
Android 2.2 Froyo operating system but upgradeable to 2.3 Gingerbread
Connectivity to include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology

According to Samsung, both devices support numerous multimedia formats including DivX, Xvid, WMV, MPEG4, and H.264. Audio wise, they support MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG, and Flac. Samsung added that the Players are DLNA certified and support AllShare. They are basically handheld devices for users to view movies, play games or run apps on the go, and will compete directly with Apple’s iTouch line.

The Unblock Me app, by Kira Games, is a great time waster. It’s a puzzle game that requires lots of brain skills, most people who download this game find it quite challenging and entertaining.

The goal of this game is to get the red block out of the board by sliding the other blocks out of the way. Yup, it’s that simple… NOT! Anyway, there are over a thousand puzzles to solve in total worth hours of playing to keep your mind active. You will never get bored.

When you run the game, you can choose from Play, Levels, and Options. Options allow you to change settings of the sound and block themes. On Play, you can choose between a Relax Mode and a Challenge Mode. On Levels, select from any of the three, Beginner, Intermediate, and Bonus. As you go further in the game, you might find yourself irritated because it gets harder and harder to solve, but that’s what makes it challenging.

This game was updated in September, when they removed an annoying loading screen. You’ll need to have Android 1.5 or later operating system and at least 1.1MB of free storage space to install it. It’s free from the Android Market, give it a try and let us know what you think.

Touch screen tablet fans will recall that Samsung revealed a Wi-Fi only version of the Galaxy Tab back in October of last year, followed by.. silence. As time passed numerous other companies announced their own Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablets, and now that Apple’s iPad2 is out, Samsung now faces intense competition in both hardware specs and price. In response it seems like Samsung has revived their plans to release the Wi-Fi only version.. a leaked Samsung flyer has surfaced stating that this version will soon be out in the US on April 4, and will be competitively priced at $399.

With Samsung’s release of the wifi tablet in the lower price range, it seems that the specs will also be mid-range compared today’s latest tablets. For example the processor will only be a single core, and the operating system will still be the older version (Android 2.2 Froyo).

Personally I think this is a pretty good deal, assuming you only use it to browse the internet – no expensive data packages will be required and you won’t need to sign a long term contract with the likes of Verizon or Sprint. The single core processor is more than adequate for watching HD video, surfing the web, running apps, and playing most games – unless you plan on using your tablet for hard core 3D gaming. It looks like Samsung will go ahead with the rumored price drop for their Galaxy Tab 10.1 in anticipation of the release of the iPad 2 at only $499. The announcement also leaked that the ten inch Tab would be launched in Australia early next month, but didn’t reveal the exact date.

Samsung has quite a dilemma on their hands to decide exactly what the price should be. During the Galaxy Tab 10.1 launch in Barcelona, Spain back in February 13th, their statements suggest that its price would be higher than the 7 inch tablet. This seemed reasonable since the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is better in many ways compared to the first generation 7 inch tablet. The first Galaxy Tab operates on Android 2.2 (Froyo), 1024 x 600 resolution, 190.09mm x 120.45mm x 11.98mm dimensions, 3MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera and 4,000 mAh battery capacity, while the Galaxy Tab 10.1 operates on Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), 1280 x 800 resolution, 246.2mm x 170.4mm x 10.9mm dimensions, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 6860 mAH battery capacity. But with iPad 2’s announcement that their price range will remain the same as their first tablet, Samsung needs to reconsider their pricing strategy.

Could the release of Apple’s iPad 2 force Samsung to lower their price on the 10″ Galaxy Tab? Reports say there’s a chance that Samsung may actually drop the price on the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 in reaction to Apple’s announcement of the iPad 2. The starting price of the iPad 2 will be the same as its predecessor – just $499. If the planned price for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 remains upwards of $600, Samsung’s sales could suffer.

When iPad 2 was revealed, everyone saw just how thin it was, only 8.8mm thick while Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, although thinner than its predecessor, is 10.9mm thick. Smart observers will note that’s 20% fatter than the iPad 2. The vice president of Samsung’s mobile division, Lee Don-joo, admitted to Yonhap News Agency that the new slimness and same price of iPad 2 will be a dilemma. “The 10-inch was to be priced higher than the 7-inch but we will have to think that over,” he added. His statement is understandable as the Galaxy 10.1 has improved aspect over the 7 inch tablet in every way.

“We will have to improve the parts that are inadequate. Apple made (the iPad 2) very thin.” these are the words of Mr. Lee so we can expect that there will be a second version of the Galaxy 10.1 which will be of the same thickness as its biggest rival or even thinner and cheaper, or there will be a $100 or more cut price on their latest tablet product. Whichever of these options they’ll choose will certainly be great news for Samsung fans.
