Corning® Gorilla® is Samsung Galaxy Tab’s Cover Glass

Corning Incorporated confirmed today on a Press release that Corning® Gorilla® glass has been designed into the Samsung Galaxy Tab smart media device.

Earlier reports stated the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Tab at the IFA Berlin, a consumer electronics show held in Berlin, Germany on September 2nd. The tablet is powered by Android 2.2 and features a 7-inch portable screen, video calling, and full web browsing. Its durable, thin display and glossy design is enabled in part by using Corning Gorilla as a cover glass. Corning Gorilla glass uses environment friendly materials with the latest in technology. It is designed distinctively to work as a cover glass for devices such as notebook PC’s, smart devices and mobile phones.

According to B. J. Kang, Samsung Electronics’ senior manager of Product Planning that Corning Gorilla glass enables the Galaxy Tab to combine best in-class technologies in mobility and durability. Since the Galaxy Tab is designed to fully enjoy browsing, e-reading, watching movies and listening to music on the go, the Corning Gorilla glass made all these possible.

“We are pleased that consumers recognize the benefits of Corning’s Gorilla glass in their IT products,” said Haeng Hee Lee, president of Corning Korea Company Ltd. He also added that the company strives to bring in new technology that will provide their consumers great advantage in the world market.
